High quality Dressage & Jumping Training for Horse and Rider
Suzanne Wepplo, a Minnesota native and current resident, trains, teaches, sells and shows dressage and jumping horses. Suzanne is an USDF bronze and silver medalist in dressage, as well as an accomplished rider over fences. Growing up riding with Grand Prix Dressage rider and trainer Anne McKay, Suzanne had the opportunity to train and competed multiple horses through the FEI levels of dressage, all before the age 21. After earning degrees in Education and Psychology from Hamline University, Suzanne furthered her training by riding with Kathy von Ertfelda, Gerd Zuther, Leslie Morse, and Steffen Peters, among others. Suzanne is currently competing her 8 year old off the track thoroughbred, Puppylove, at 3rd and 4th level. In 2012 Puppylove was awarded Champion 3rd level open for USDF all breeds awards. He also won the prestigious USEF Rookie of the Year Award for Thoroughbreds in Dressage.

In August 2009, I bought a 4 year old thoroughbred gelding off the track at Canterbury Park, Minnesota. Tall and gangly, "Rainy," by Shot of Gold out of Rainfall, had only two starts, way too slow, but his groom's favorite (perfect retired racehorse project). I was lucky enough to see him gallop on the exercise track and handle him in his stall. He was very gentle on the ground and he piaffed on the hot walker, so I bought him and brought him home.
"Rainy" instantly became "Puppy" due to the fact that he would crawl in my lap if he could and he was all legs, like a black lab puppy. I started training him immediately and competed him at Training level dressage the following summer. Puppy had to learn in his first season that dressage is boring! Once he was able to control his adrenaline, he received scores as high as 78% at Training level. Puppy continued to be successful for the next two show seasons:
2011 Champion at 1st Level Open for Thoroughbreds for USDF all Breeds Awards
2012 Champion at 3rd Level Open for Thoroughbreds for USDF all Breeds Awards
In 2012 USEF Rookie of the Year Award for Thoroughbreds in Dressage
Puppy has continued his training and will compete at 3rd and 4th levels in 2013. Now an 8 year old, Puppy seems to be finishing maturing physically (finally!) and his balance and strength has improved immeasurably from last season. He's really starting to believe dressage is boring and he still piaffes like a machine! We hope to be able to take more risks in the show ring and raise our scores this season.
